A free tool, given as it is. These terms say what it does, what it does not promise, and what the files it makes are yours to do with.

The service
You give it Qur'anic audio or video; it returns timings for the words of the mushaf, in several subtitle and annotation formats. It is free, there is no account, and it is limited: 20 min of audio a day without an email, 2 h 30 min with one confirmed, and files up to 500 MB.
Capacity is bought month by month out of donations. When it runs out, new work waits rather than being charged for.
What you may submit
- Recordings you have the right to submit. If a recitation is somebody else's recording, that is between you and them.
- Qur'anic recitation. The pipeline aligns against the mushaf and will simply find nothing in anything else.
- Not: an attempt to exhaust the free capacity, to work around the daily allowance with scripts or many addresses, or to attack the site.
The files are yours
No claim is made over your recording or over the timings produced from it. Use them commercially, publish them, edit them — they are yours.
The one condition travels with the Qur'an text itself: it comes from the Tanzil Project under Creative Commons Attribution 3.0, so if you redistribute files containing that text, the attribution goes with them. Every output this site writes already carries it.
What is not promised
Accuracy. Forced alignment is right most of the time and wrong in ways only a listener can hear. Timings are a starting point that you can correct on the result page — they are not an authority. Check anything you publish.
Availability. The service may be slow, full, or gone. A queued job may wait. Nothing here is guaranteed to be running tomorrow.
Retention. The opposite of a promise: your files will be deleted 12 hours after a job finishes. Download what you want to keep.
To say it in the usual words: the service is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, and the people running it are not liable for any loss arising from its use. It is a free tool, run at a small monthly cost, by people who would rather it existed than not.
One request
This tool handles the text of the Qur'an. It is reproduced verbatim and never generated, and the timings are offered as a convenience for study, teaching and subtitling. Please treat what comes out of it with the care the text deserves.
